Students Phone Home During First Year

Defined Tag:

New college students phone home when they are facing financial issues and are in need of emotional support. This tradition comes from their "breaking away" from their parents' nurturing nature. Some have a very hard time getting acquainted with new students because they still feel alone because they are not near their support system. To break into the new college atmosphere, students should find an interesting organization to join or find a part-time job to get an advantage of meeting more people through interactions.

Student organizations are a great way to meet new people and learn more about their campus’ city. Common colleges are quite large; so the probability of meeting approximately 100 people within the first year is high. Students phone home less after the first 5-6 months of being surrounded with their peers - unless they have a problem fitting in. Breaking into a new community takes time unless you are an outgoing person and can make friends quite easy. I suggest the club method because you will have a clear idea of the people with your interests. After a while, students phone home less and less, as they get involved more. Eventually, students phone home home almost not at all.

To counter this issue, students should remember that they are attending a university to gain a higher education. An intrusive award is very important in order to break the barriers of isolation. Eventually, many students phone home less after they have broken into the environment and have a few friends in their corner. Some find more comfort in discussing their experience with their parents once in a while, but not frequently as the beginning. As a student, I recommend new freshmen take their time to adjust to their setting and learn their way around. If friends become an asset, they would have done something great but their focus should remain on their studies.
