Universities have made it clear that students with disabilities have the same rights as others. Now, government funding has been provided to make all building wheel chair accessible and the equal opportunity statement must be a part of all documents. The new evolution has opened doors for all students with disabilities; may it be emotional, learning, or physical – you have a right to education. The equal opportunity statement implies that all students have the right to attend courses of their choice, universities of their choice, and receive respect from everyone. This statement changed the lives of many students; now, we understand how important it is to have our voice heard on college campuses.

Accommodations are given to students who follow the rule of the university by filing documentation of their disabilities once enrolled at the school. This allows instructors to accommodate the student the best way possible. The ability to experience an education means the world to most students and everyone pushes one another to succeed in a campus environment. Opportunities are endless in today’s time; students with disabilities have their own tutorial centers available for more assistance and they do not have to worry about making it to class on time.

A few changes that have made a difference on university campuses for students with disabilities include elevators in buildings with stairs, wheel chair rafts for easy access, and tutorial services for those with extended needs on understanding course content. The list can go on and on, but the purpose is not forgotten. All students – including students with disabilities -- have the right to attend the universities of their choice because they will have all of their needs available to them from day one. With this, their education will be exciting and they can excel in their endeavors to follow their dreams with more help than they could imagine.
